On February 4, 2014 Secretary Jewell visited the BLM’s Oregon/Washington State Office in Portland. The purpose of her trip the State Office was to receive an update on the status of the Pacific Northwest Regional Infrastructure Team (PNWRIT) and participate in a tour of the one of the most energy efficient office buildings in the country — the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building.

In May 2013, the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Governors’ Offices of Oregon and Washington entered in to an agreement to form a pilot PNWRIT. The Governor’s Office of Idaho joined the team in September 2013. The main objectives behind the development of the team are to: advance infrastructure projects that spur job creation in communities; further energy independence for national security; manage climate change risk; build and upgrade necessary infrastructure to support the Nation’s economy; and ensure environmental and natural resource stewardship.

The Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building in the heart of Portland, Oregon, is an 18-story, 525,000 square foot facility that is home to more than 16 federal agencies and 1,200 federal employees. The building was originally constructed in 1974 and underwent a major renovation between 2009 and 2013. Today the building is a cornerstone of General Service Administration’s green building portfolio with all new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and data systems designed to make it one of the most energy efficient office buildings in the country.
