what is an interior designer

I’ll post a photo of the finished project.

I’d done a color sketch for this and the client and interior designer liked it, so I layed it out, will do a trompe l’oeil painting to look like old gold, in three dimensions.

As I was doing this, I was thinking about what the process would have been if the large decorative art firm I recently left had done it.

The customer would have indicated that they wanted something over that doorway.

That information would have gone back to the office.

The art designer at the office would have done some sample art on the computer, sent it to the stencil person who would have done a sample stencil on the computer, and a sample board would have been done, using the sample stencil and working around its restrictions.

A meeting, at the office, would have been scheduled, and, if the client liked the sample, in the office, the project contract would have been changed.

Measurements of the doorway would have been made, sent back to the office.

The art designer at the office would have done the final art, sent it to the stencil person who would have done a final stencil, which would have gone to the project site.

The stencil would have been placed, the base paint layer applied, the stencil pulled, and considerable time would have been spent making it look like it hadn’t been from a stencil.

There’s a place for stencils, and I frequently cut and use them, for certain kinds of designs, but, sometimes, just because we have the technology, we become slaves to the technology, expending more hours, when the old ways are more efficient, and give the right effect, with less labor.

In this case, the client and designer were able to view the process, be part of it, in their space.
